In addition to the Appliances
at the fire station, the Riddells Creek Fire Brigade operate a collection
of important equipment which is used for combating fires and other
emergencies.
Personal Protective Clothing (Wildfire PPC)
Each firefighter is issued their own Wildfire
uniform and provided they have the necessary training, a
Structural firefighting uniform as well.
The wildfire uniform is the chosen uniform
for attacking grass and forest fires.
The Structural uniform is required for
more aggressive firefighting such as combating house fires
and other incidents. More details regarding the Structural
uniform are provided below.
Personal Protective Clothing (Previous
Structural PPC)
The previous structural firefighting
uniform (pictured right) consisted of a pair of yellow
wildfire over-trousers along with a black, woollen coat.
The uniform also comprised a pair of structural
firefighting gloves and a structural firefighting helmet,
complete with a polycarbonate visor.
Firefighters at the Riddells Creek Fire
Brigade had this uniform replaced during 2010 by either of
the new structural uniforms shown below.
This uniform is still eligible to be
used by firefighters and a number of the traditional
'black coats' can still be seen in use at various fires
and incidents attended by firefighters from the Riddells
Creek Fire Brigade.
Personal Protective Clothing (Current
Structural PPC)
During 2010, firefighters who had
previously undertaken the relevant structural firefighting
training were issued with a new structural firefighting
uniform.
Two different versions of this uniform
were offered to our firefighters. A lime-green uniform,
known as the Nomex 3D uniform, and a dark yellow
"PBI Gold" uniform represent the two styles of structural
firefighting uniforms that are currently in use.
Each individual firefighter was eligible
to select their preferred uniform style at the completion
of additional structural firefighting training (such as
the use of Breathing Apparatus).
The structural firefighting gloves and
helmets from the previous structural firefighting uniform
were retained for use with either of the new uniform
styles.
